It's Been a While

Dear Auntie Greg,

I am having problems with light. I know that light propagates as waves because it will refract through a block of glass etc but the fact it is also sucked into a black hole means it must surely have mass like a particle?? I was hoping to find a man with a funny accent and a peg leg to tell me the answer but he is busy playing bowles with Paul Huggett; can you help........?

McLaughlin

Hi McLaughlin,
I'm afraid it's been a while since I last studied physics, a year and a half to be exact, although some would argue that the last time I learnt any physics was actually a long time before that. For help with information on light or other physics related topics, I would visit this site, http://online.cctt.org/physicslab/content/PhyAPB/lessonnotes/dualnature/dualnaturesummary.asp. It seems very helpful.
What I would like to point out is that you should fear the theories behind light, but instead embrace them. The light provided by the sun makes our crops grow, and tans our pasty skin.
Good luck and I hope the website is useful,
I'm back off to the fields to harvest my crops.
Much love,

Auntie Greg x

P.S. I love, love, love light. And so do my crops...
